Why are my times "not reasonable?"
I'm trying to use Analyze/Contrast and getting an error message. I wanted to check two different mic/interface combinations to see what the noise floor was. I recorded 5 seconds of silence and sentence or two of speech with each mic. On the first track I selected a second of room tone and used Analyze/contrast/measure and got a reading. On the second track I get the message "Times not reasonable. Please enter reasonable times." I searched for those phrases and came up blank. The user manual tells how to use the Analyze/contrast but doesn't say anything about error messages.

It's a bad error message. It means "something is wrong".formeruser wrote:On the second track I get the message "Times not reasonable. Please enter reasonable times."
Which exact version of Audacity are you using? (look in "Help > About Audacity". Some of the weird error messages have been fixed recently. The current Audacity version is 2.1.2 and is available here: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Why are my times "not reasonable?"
I'm using 2.1.2 I just upgraded from the Audacity website to make sure I've got the latest version. I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Dell Laptop.
Re: Why are my times "not reasonable?"
If you have a longer track below a shorter track and select valid audio in the longer track after the end of the track above, you get "Times are not reasonable!".
Is that what's happening?
(It's a bug).

Which microphone/interface combinations are you experimenting with?

I've been off the board for a few weeks because I was moving. To answer the previous questions...I'm not sure about the long/track vs. short track suggestion. I will check it out. For the second question, I'm using an AudioTechnica 2020 condenser into a Focusrite Scarlett interface.
