Decidedly non-tech user about to attempt a clean install of Windows 7 to replace Vista. Currently have Audacity 2.0.5. What should I do to preserve Audacity with its associated files?

Are you talking about your AUP & AU project files?
There is some information
here, but I'd recommend you forget about that and export everything to regular audio files (WAV, FLAC, etc.).
Or at least, save an audio file too as a backup.
Then install the latest version of Audacity (currently 2.1.2).

Thank you, that's what I'll do.
