Restoring prior custom key bindings

Post by BillFrezza » Mon Jan 25, 2016 3:44 pm

I just upgraded to the latest version of Audacity (thank you) and when I opened it I found that I had lost all of the key bindings I had set up, a disaster given how accustomed I've become to them and how they evolved over such a long time that recreating them from scratch is going to be a nightmare. Is there any way to restore my old key bindings rather than get stuck with the default?

Thanks.

Please, tell us your version of Audacity (all three numbers) and Windows. See the pink panel at the top of the page.

The latest Audacity version is 2.1.2 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. Only that site is guaranteed to really have the latest Audacity version.

Which bindings exactly are affected? In Audacity 2.1.2, we know that bindings for Tracks > Align Tracks and Tracks > Move Selection when Aligning are not recognised.

Your old bindings should be stored in the audacity.cfg settings file, under [NewKeys]. However if 2.1.2 is not recognising those, setting them again in Keyboard Preferences may not help.

I just downloaded 2.1.2 to replaces 2.0.5. Let me go look for the audacity.cfg file.

OK, I was able to restore my key bindings - one at a time by hand. Everything seems to be working fine now, thanks.

If you wish to backup your key bindings, you can Export them from Keyboard Preferences.
