This happens with 2.1.2 RC1 or RC2, but not with 2.1.1. OS is Vista Home Premium (64 bit).
I was de-skewing the channels of a stereo track transcribed from tape. I divided the track into 3 clips and separated them enough to avoid collisions when time-shifting. I "split stereo track", then time-shifted one channel to the right to align it with the other channel. Then after "make stereo track", I got "Unhandled exception Retry/Ignore/Abort" when zooming in (expanding time axis). Total length is about 90 minutes; project has 1 stereo track and 3 label tracks. I still had the time-shift cursor and was using ctrl-wheel to zoom. This was quite repeatable in my project but I wasn't able to repeat the exception with 30 seconds of "generate" output.
Also, clicking either Retry, Ignore or Abort only gave me the same dialog. I had to use Task Manager to abort.

Thanks, yes I can reproduce that, though on Windows 10 I don't get labels on the exception dialogue buttons. I will put it on Bugzilla when I have figured out if it will reproduce without label tracks or with shorter tracks.

All that is needed to reproduce the bug appears to be a split after half way along the track, and to zoom in by any method to absolute maximum to left of the split.
But the track needs to be fairly long. It does not necessarily reproduce with a 30 or 45 minutes track, but will probably do so if you exceed an hour or so.
I created the bug http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1296 as P2, meaning James (Release Manager) gets to decide whether to fix it for 2.1.2 or 2.1.3.

We have fixes committed for this bug. There are no Mac nightly builds on homerow right now, but I've posted a build with this fix at http://gaclrecords.org.uk/test-builds/a ... jan-16.zip.
Could you give that a try with your routines in long tracks?
