OK it might have changed for wx3.steve wrote:On Linux, the default Save, Save As and Export directory (reset preferences, nothing imported, nothing previously saved / exported) is the directory that Audacity was launched from. Usually for a fully installed build this will be the home directory, but if launched from the command line it could be anywhere.Gale Andrews wrote:FWIW this wxGTK3 documentation https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/3.0/Gt ... setting-up argues against specifying the directory on Linux, instead letting GTK "choose".
On my tests on Ubuntu 14.04, I created a Portable Settings folder in the folder in which I built the Audacity 2.1.2 RC3 tarball, then launched Audacity from that folder. Save and export opened in the tarball folder. Probably not unreasonable.
Then I deleted audacity.cfg in the system location, changed directory in the Terminal to home/gale/Desktop, typed "audacity" to launch the installed build, and save and export opened on the Desktop. I think that is much less useful, so I agree with you that it would be better to be consistent cross-platform.
Well, except that on Mac and Linux, users will lose their saved or exported files when they log out of the Guest account. If we are going to do this thoroughly it may be an idea for Audacity to warn about saving in the Guest's documents on those systems.steve wrote:Thanks for testing the guest account business - that looks like one less thing to worry about.
