New installation, cannot preset Mono recording [SOLVED]

I will be recording in Mono for all instances of Audacity. How do I set this as default so that I do not have to make changes every time I start the program?

Device Toolbar can be used to set Recording Channels to mono. This applies whatever device you use. The setting is saved per user.
Are you saying that setting mono there does not stick? If so please give us the necessary information from the pink panel at the top of the page. Give us the make and model number of the recording device.

Oop. my bad,......
I forgot about the option in the tool bar. I was looking for a pull down menu option.
