can I use audacity to record 4 channels live from four sepa

Post by KES » Thu Nov 05, 2015 4:55 pm

Hello, first I'll give you my system information.
I am using a Toshiba satellite laptop with an Intel core i 3 processor. I am now running Windows 10. I recently purchased an Akai EIE PRO that has 24-bit resolution and sample rates of 44.1 kHz/48 kHz/88.2 kHz/96 kHz with 4 XLR-¼” combo jacks .-
See more at: http://www.akaipro.com/product/eiepro#s ... tCtBM.dpuf
The Akai interface connects to the laptop via usb 2.0.
Microphones I am using-
2 Lewitt Authentica LCT 340's,
1 KEL HM-7U,
1 KEL HM-2D.
My question is can I use audacity to record 4 channels live from four separate microphones , that I can mix down later? As of yet I have not been able to do so. I can only record one or two channels, mono or stereo.

Have you tested the AKAI with Windows 10?

From what I've heard from other owners, it doesn't work under Windows 10 and AKAI seems to have no plans to update drivers.

If the interface works, you should be able to simultaneously record up to four channels separately.

Yes, I am able to record using 1 or more microphones but can't get more than a mono or a stereo track to record. I can't seem to get Audacity to offer more than a mono or a stereo option. I would like to use 4 mics and have 4 [single and/or mono] tracks recorded. Is this possible and if so how?

On Windows, many devices can't record more than stereo simultaneously using Audacity as shipped.

I think the only way you might be able to make it work is to use the Windows WASAPI host in Device Toolbar. See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Multi ... ed_devices.

Using WASAPI host for physical inputs requires using Audacity 2.1.0 or later. You can get the latest Audacity 2.1.1 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows.

When you changed to WASAPI host, did you change to the EIE Recording Device in Device Toolbar? See this post http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 61#p280961.
