Saving without having to exit after each change [SOLVED]

Help for Audacity on Windows.

Saving without having to exit after each change [SOLVED]

I am a new user to Audacity and I have a basic question which I could not find the answer to in the help section. I am using version 2.0.6 on Windows 7. Every time I make an edit in Audacity it forces me to exit to save changes as the Save and Save as Buttons are greyed out. Also if I make a change (using effects) and then want to use a different effect the effect menu is greyed out unless I exit the program and reopen. Do you need to exit after every change? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

if I make a change (using effects) and then want to use a different effect the effect menu is greyed out unless I exit the program and reopen.
The effects menus go gray if you're in Pause instead of Stop.
