Despite what settings I use, the program will not record anything. I know my mike is working. And the program was working earlier today.

You can start with which computer and which operating system (pink band over this thread)? Which Audacity, all three numbers? Which microphone, model numbers, and what else beside the microphone failed?

Thank you for replying. Sorry I did not provide the information on my original post, but I am just so upset. I am using Audacity 2.1.1 (I obtained it via the exe. installer) on Windows 8.1-64 bit. My mike is a USB mike (Yeti)-I also tried my USB headset and that does not work either. As I may have mentioned, I tried changing all of the settings, but to no avail. I used the program early this morning and it was working fine.

What are the symptoms of not recording anything - is there an error, if so what does the error say?

Or does recording stall with the red recording cursor stuck at zero? If so, see http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... tml#pauses. Or are you recording a flat line?

If you connected the mic after launching Audacity, use Transport > Rescan Audio Devices at the top of Audacity.

Sometimes you just need to reboot the computer. Hold the Windows key, press X then in the menu that appears, choose "Shut Down".

Set Audacity project rate (bottom left) to 48000 Hz - that is Yet's native sample rate.

Thank you for replying. Nothing I have tried to date works. I reset the sample project rate to 48000 Hz. No recording. I rebooted the computer. No recording. I tried Rescan Audio Devices. No recording.

What is happening when I try to record is that the red recording cursor moves, but it records a flat line.

Do you see tall blue waves for a few seconds before they revert to a flat line? If so, that is a problem that Audacity cannot write to its temporary directory (Edit > Preferences... , look in "Directories") or that a cleanup app is deleting your recordings while you make them.

Are you sure you are choosing the correct audio device in Audacity's Device Toolbar and that you have turned the recording volume up?

Have you installed Skype or some other application that uses audio just before the problem started?

Thanks for answering my post!

Just as a reminder, I am using Audacity 2.1.1, I am using Windows 8.1-64 bit, my mike is a USB mike (Yeti-Blue)-I also tried my USB headset and that does not work either. As I may have mentioned, I tried changing all of the settings, but to no avail. I used the program early this morning and it was working fine.

I still have no audio. No, I do not get a blue wave before they revert to a flat line. No, I have not installed any audio software just before the problem started.

Maybe I am not using the correct settings: Currently I have:

MME, Microsoft Sound Mapper Input, mono record (which I want, don't need stereo), speakers/headphones (output). I have tried changing the settings, but perhaps I am not using them in the correct sequence.

Choose the explicitly named recording device that you want to record from, such as "Yeti USB Audio CODEC" (or however it is named).

"Sound Mapper - Input" is whatever is the current "Default Device" in the Recording tab in Windows Sound. If Windows Sound's default recording device is currently set for example to stereo mix and you are not playing any audio, or set to a headset you are not using, then choosing Sound Mapper - Input will record nothing.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it still does not record. Would you suggest that I try uninstalling Audacity and installing it again?
