InternalPortAudio error since windows 10 update

Help for Audacity on Windows.

InternalPortAudio error since windows 10 update

Hi :)

I use audacity since a long time now, and it always worked very well. I even used it to mix music and it's an amazing software.
I know windows 10 is not supported yet but in case of someone has a trick to help me, I wanted to post my problem here (finger crossed),

Since I updated to windows 10 pro(from windows 7), no audio devices are recognized.

-I can record with orther programs like obs
-I've checked that my device is activated in windows sound control pannel
-I tried to reinstall chipset/audio driver for my manufacturer (asus)
-I've uninstalled audacity, deleted all the remaining files and downloaded a portable version to be sure no old files could interfere
-When I launch audacity I got a message box InternalPortAudio error
-In Audacity preferences Devices/interface everything is blank
-I really don't know what to do now to fix this

When you say you reinstalled the Asus drivers were those Windows 7 drivers? Have you been to http://support.asus.com/download/option ... =en&type=1 and checked if ASUS have listed Windows 10 audio drivers for your computer model?

If they are providing Windows 10 audio drivers, install those. If not, then you could try going into Windows Device Manager and rolling back to the standard Windows (Microsoft-provided) audio drivers, though you may lose some functionality.

I confirm that I've installed windows 10 audio drivers, and I have 2 sounds cards (one asus xonar and the realtek included in my motherboard)
plud I have a blue yeti mic and a webcam but the problem is that all the fields are blank and I cannot select anything as in device or interface in audacity and it's working with obs or with windows
I downloaded the portable version to do some tests (I took it on your website, it's the zip file version), but I use the last version of audacity available on your website, the one with the installer

There may not be much you can do except for changing drivers such as rolling back to the default Windows drivers (or to some previous driver set). In the current absence of Windows 10 audio drivers for my laptop, I'm using the Windows 7 audio drivers in Windows 10 - Audacity recognises those drivers but not those for Windows 8.1.

Have you tried disconnecting Yeti and the web cam, then disabling Xonar in Device Manager then restarting Audacity? You could also enable Xonar but disable Realtek. It's just a guess but it could be that if Audacity fails on one device it's giving up on the others - it should not happen but this is a new version of Windows.

You could post your dxdiag report as well, but there is no guarantee it will help. Just click the search icon and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes).

I forgot to say that I even reinstalled the chipsets motherboard drivers.

I saw somewehre in the forum (I don't remmerber where) that an older 2.X beta version of audacity worked in windows 10, can you confirm that?

Thank you again for your help, I'm agree to try anything to make It work, I really enjoy audacity and I don't want to use another program :)

another reply (the last one, sorry for that :) ) I've installed the 2.0.2 version and everything is working now, I assume there is a problem with the 2.1.1 on some windows 10 systems.

2.x versions are not betas, and no-one other than you has reported that 2.0.2 does not have the Windows 10 PortAudio initialisation error, but thanks for posting your finding and for the dxdiag report (which looks fine).

A few users find that versions of Audacity after 2.0.2 reset the audio output balance to equal, but that isn't specific to Windows 10.

In my case, under W10, I can use up to v2.0.3 without problem.
All other later versions give the annoying "InternalPortAudio error".

As some other people already told about it, the best solution is to update the audio drivers.
In my case, it was a Realtek "High Definition Audio Codecs".
The current version is R2.79 and with it, Audacity v2.1.1 can run perfectly under Windows 10.
