.mogg files not working?

Post by Frosticle » Sat Jun 27, 2015 7:12 pm

Hello! Thanks for taking your time to help me :)

I'm trying to open a .mogg file in Audacity 2.1.0, so I can convert it into a .ogg file, and it does not open. Whenever I try to open it, I get this error message:

"Audacity did not recognize the type of file. If it is uncompressed, try importing it using 'Import Raw'."

I have looked around for help/solutions, but have found no solutions to my problem. I would greatly appreciate some help!

(I'm on Windows 8.1 64-bit)

I understand. One of the first Google hits says: Use Audacity to open your .mogg file."

I'm betting they left out a step. Audacity isn't all that talented by itself, but it does very well after you add the FFMpeg software.

Drill down to the FFMpeg software.

Also, since you're on Windows, you could have a file called MyMusic.mogg.mp4 and Windows would conveniently hide the .mp4 extension leading you to think you had a straight .mogg file.

Hidden File Extensions - Windows
-- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Extensions for Known File Types (deselect)
-- Apply (to this folder) or Apply to All Folders
-- OK

Note though that there is no direct link to FFmpeg there. There is a link to FFmpeg on http://audacityteam.org/download/windows.

I recommend linking directly to the FAQ: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... tml#ffdown.

Also the included OGG importer should "in principle" import MOGG (multi-channel OGG) files without FFmpeg. If the files are encrypted as they often are if they come from a game, they can't be imported by any method.

Issues with MOGG files have also been reported if the files are very large, which requires modifying the file headers.
