Audacity Records sounded like Minus one

Post by julious » Mon Jun 01, 2015 4:04 am

Hello guys, Ive been using audacity for a long time and I already exported some covers of mine in social networks. Yeahh its pretty cool cause I used free software. Until one day when I tried to make a new cover, Audacity starts giving me bad results. After recording my cover i put effects on it, I tested it many times and I made good quality cover and it sounded like a bit professional audio. I exported it to mp3 and tried to play using my computer and its sounds good. But the problem is that when Im trying to play the recorded song using other devices such like my cellphones its sounded like a minus one and cant hear my voice anymore but everytime i listen to it using headphones, headset my voice will appear. I tried to upload the cover in youtube and still cant hear my voice. So what should I do to fix it. Please guys anyone up here can help me Sir,Maam. I will wait for any feedback regarding this. Thank you :)

That's almost the poster child for getting the left and right stereo channels out of phase. If you're forced to play from one speaker or cellphone, the lead singer will vanish (and sometimes the drums, too).

Open one of the broken songs in Audacity.
Click just above MUTE to select the whole song.
Tracks > Stereo track to Mono.

I bet not only do you get a mono track (one blue wave) but your vocal goes away and the waves get a lot lower.

Don't save or export anything. Is that what happened?

Thanks for the feedback Koz but the problem is still thesame. Im exporting the recorded song as mp3 and it can play the song but it sounds like im singing in the tunnel or something like minus one

Presumably your headphones have greater frequency range than the cellphone speaker?

First, export as WAV and try that on the cellphone speaker. If you can hear your voice, then perhaps you boosted the treble too much on your voice. MP3 encoding removes the treble especially at lower bit rates.

If you can't hear your voice in the WAV, perhaps you boosted the bass too much on your voice.

Have you made Koz' test?
Perhaps, you could attach a short excerpt (as wav).

We can't work very well without hearing the problem. Make a fresh test track according to this formula and post it to the forum.

What did you do that works? We can't see what you are doing so you need to tell us exactly.

It would help if you would give us your Audacity version and version of Windows (see the pink panel at the top of the page).

So now are you saying the problem is not that you can't hear the voice on the cellphone speaker, but you have a hiss noise? What is the make and model number of the mic and how do you connect it to the computer?

To reduce noise you use Effect > Noise Reduction. If you don't have the latest Audacity 2.1.0 it's called Noise Removal. If the problem is noise, we need to hear some of the noise on its own as well as the noise mixed in with what you want to hear.

Thanks for that.

However if there is still a problem please answer all the questions in my previous post http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 75#p277275. Otherwise we don't know what the problem is.

If noise is the problem, also please attach a short audio sample that contains first the noise on its own then the mic with the noise in the background. See How to post an audio sample.
