What effects would you use to mimic this character's voice?
Hi all,
If I wanted to copy the sound effects used to make Slark's voice (from the video game DOTA 2), what tools would you use to achieve that same/similar effect? They've managed to make him sound very gravelly and aquatic somehow, but I'm not sure how they accomplished it. Here's a link to what he sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwfjNTs11LI
Could you achieve this using Audacity?
Thanks!

About 90% of that is acting and there is no acting effect. Someone will post with the probable filters. Even if we get the filters right, you're still going to sound like you with filters.
"Make me sound like somebody else" is a very frequent request. We can't do it, but it's very frequent.

Oh, definitely. I don't want to give the impression that I want to completely copy it. But there's this sort of "underwatery" quality to it that I'd like to mimic, but it's hard for me to imagine that it was achieved just through voice acting. I guess it's possible it is, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of significant editing going on here.kozikowski wrote:About 90% of that is acting and there is no acting effect. There's a bit of "reverb" there, but it's 99% voice acting. Take away the voice acting and you have just got "someone talking with a bit of reverb", and not even close to "Slark's voice"

Tom Chantler would no doubt be pleased to hear you say that.

A ring-modulator adds a gargle-ly effect ... But your YouTube example is more complex than plain Dalek-like ring-modulation :Unpaused wrote:... They've managed to make him sound very gravelly and aquatic somehow ...
the high frequencies (above 4KHz) seem to have less modulation in your example.
