Audio fading & changing computer & OS

Post by Sounded1 » Mon May 18, 2015 8:45 pm

Hello everyone,

I just got a new laptop and am going from a Mac to Windows. I record a podcast and when I record with the same equipment I am having different problems on my new laptop. Sometimes if there is a moment or two of silence in between things I am saying the audio sort of fades-in when I first say something. It does this quickly but it is noticeable. It also seems just to be recording different where all the sudden the sound is loud or makes a weird sound as if I just pushed air into the mic. Anyone know what to do? Maybe I should return this and go drop an unfortunate amount of money on a mac.

Ensure that all audio "enhancements" are turned off. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... hancements

Thanks for the reply. There was only an option for the internal mic (and I use an external mic.. the "Blue Snowball") and I unchecked audio enhancements for that but it is still doing the same thing unfortunately.

Please tell us your version of Audacity and Windows (see the pink panel at the top of the page).

If you have Skype running and don't need it, shut Skype down. It can interfere with recording volume.

Look in Device Toolbar and make sure you are recording from the Blue, not from stereo mix.

Turn off Transport > Software Playthrough at the top of the Audacity menu bar.

Maybe you just haven't found the settings. Windows defaults to voice processing if it thinks there could be a microphone connected. Did you see multiple layers of processing in a selection panel?

- No processing
- Moderate Processing
- Heavy Processing.

Windows machines are no longer "generic" computers. They are now aggressively business machines and the processing is default for voice connections, business meetings or company conferences.

If you didn't get that far, it hates music.
