Need some answers as to why Audacity won't work with windows 7.

Trying to make a simple recording on Audacity from a Zoom H2 recorder. Has worked before but now I can't get any audio in my speakers while recording.

Guess I could live with that and edit it on playback but you now apparently can't record, split the tracks, save the recording then send it to WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER to burn a CD with Windows 7.

WHY? Worked great with XP.

from a Zoom H2 recorder.

You have the H2 connected as a microphone, or are you recording on the H2 and transferring the files to the computer (the recommended method).

Yes, Recording on H2 then transferring to computer.

Have you tried selecting the speakers as playback device in Audacity's Device Toolbar then turning on Transport > Software Playthrough top of the Audacity menus?

You just said you could record, but can't hear while recording.

If you want to save the song for Windows Media Player you have to export it as 44100 Hz stereo WAV, as you always did: Tutorial - Burning music files to a CD - Audacity Manual.

Gale, Thanks for the reply.

Have tried everything possible that I know of for hours but no way to hear what I'm recording to Audacity. The Audacity program I had before worked. Now I have the RECORD & PLAYBACK toolbars with numbers 0 to 59. The record used to be red and audio green at the same time. Now just green for the record toolbar and NO audio. BLANK TOOLBAR.
Why put out a new version of Audacity that makes everything not work. Thought it should make it better.
Why change everything to where you can't even send a recorded program to Windows Media Player or anywhere to burn a CD. All of the years I've been using Audacity it was great, now it's useless.

You mentioned saving the song's to Windows Media Player to export it as 44100 Hz stereo WAV. I never had to do that before that I can recall. Just record the music to Audacity, split the tracks , export multiple, save the program then (open with) Windows Media Player. Now you can't (open with) WMP or anywhere.

I don't think you are really being fair. You have not even told us which version of Audacity you are using and you have given contradictory information about what you are trying to do. Before we go further, please do the following:

1) Look in the Audacity "Help menu > About Audacity" and tell us the version of Audacity you are using.

2) In your first post you say that you are trying to record with Audacity, In your next reply you say that you have recorded on your H2 and you wish to transfer the recording to your computer. Please state clearly what exactly you are trying to do.

Once you have done Export Multiple there is no need to save an Audacity project unless you wish to. If you think you may need to come back and re-edit the recording however it is strongly recommended to save a project as well.

Nothing has changed with regard to exporting a suitable file for burning as audio CD.

If you are still experiencing difficulties after ensuring you have Audacity 2.1.0 from http://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html, please explain what exactly happens where when you experience:

I'm using Audacity 2.1.0 All I want to do is put on Audacity a program recorded on my H2 then to Windows Media Player to burn a CD.

I tried again putting 60 min. from the H2 recorder on Audacity. Still no audio when I'm putting it on Audacity. It recorded fine and the playback audio worked. I did get it to Windows M Player. NO audio on WMP.
Tried for hours using all of the different settings on the record and playback tabs, MME, stereo mix, speakers via hi def, line in etc. Nothing works.

You mentioned the device toolbar then turning on transport. Can't find that anywhere.

How did you do that? Did you press Record in Audacity and wait an hour for the file to record? Or had you transferred the file to your computer and so you imported the file into Audacity?

That is expected because Windows will have set the default playback device to the Zoom recorder. Use these instructions http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... k.html#usb to change the default Windows playback device to the speakers or headphones you are listening to. Alternatively, disconnect Zoom.

In the previous quote you said that playback audio in Audacity "worked". "Worked" and "nothing works" are ambiguous phrases that do not let us understand what the problem is. However adjusting playback and recording devices in Audacity does not affect the default playback and recording devices that Windows uses. See the above link.

If you have now changed the Audacity playback device so that you cannot hear audio in Audacity you can use Device Toolbar to reselect the correct playback device. If you cannot see Device Toolbar, click View > Toolbars > Reset Toolbars then Device Toolbar will appear.

You can also reselect the correct Audacity playback device at Edit > Preferences... then the Devices section.

You only need to use the Transport Menu if you are recording and want to hear the incoming audio while it is recording. If that is what you want to do, click on Software Playthrough in the Transport Menu which will give it a tick (checkmark) to indicate that Software Playthrough is on.
