Audacity crashes when running plugin
Hello,
I am running Audacity version 2.1.0 on Windows 8.1 64 bit (version 6.3 build 9600). My system is a I7-4710MQ with 16 gigs ram, NVIDIA GeForce GRX 860M with 4 gigs video ram. Also running DirectX 11.
The plugin I am using is QM Vamp Polyphonic Transcription on a 128k MP3 file. When the plugin gets to 100% completion, Audacity crashes. I converted the file to WAV format with the same result. The plugin works fine on other audio files, MP3 and WAV. Anybody have an idea what is causing this?
Thanks,
Larry

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
How long is the show? You can get into trouble if you have a very highly compressed multi-hour MP3 file. Audacity blows that out to an uncompressed, 32-bit floating file which would be huge and easily overrun the capacity of the machine, depending on what else you have running.
Also, Audacity is not a 64-bit application, so it and the OS are running in different spaces.

If by "show" you mean the length of the music file, it is 4 1/2 minutes long. It's never been an issue on my previous 64 bit machines.kozikowski wrote:How long is the show? Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
Given this is the only file that is affected, can you post a link to the file? Are the tracks that don't crash shorter than 4.5 minutes?
I see from http://vamp-plugins.org/plugin-doc/qm-v ... nscription that the plugin is memory intensive and works best at 44100 Hz.
If the track you imported the file into does not show 44100 Hz in the track info (above Mute / Solo), make sure the project rate bottom left is 44100 Hz, then click the track info area to select the track and choose Tracks > Resample... from the menus at the top. 44100 Hz should be preselected in the dialogue that appears, so go ahead and resample to that rate by clicking OK.

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
I attached a screen shot of Audacity with the rates. I also linked to the file in question. The other songs I have used poly on have been both longer and shorter than 4 1/2 minutes. This one has got me baffled.

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
Doesn't crash for me on Win 7 on 2.4 GHz 6 GB RAM.
Have you tried for example selecting from zero to 1 minute 42.716 seconds, processing that, then process the rest of the song?

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
Wierd, that worked. I wonder what is causing mine to crash by doing the whole song. I tried the poly on a 6 minute song (mp3) and it worked fine. Anyway, that worked for me, thanks for all the help!Gale Andrews wrote:Doesn't crash for me on Win 7 on 2.4 GHz 6 GB RAM.

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin
Perhaps you were temporarily short of RAM, though it seems unlikely on your machine.

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin // qm-vamp-plugins.
Greetings to all.
My name is Georgios and this is my first post.
I'm writing from France.
I've used Audacity for a number of years, as well as Sonic Visualizer.
Both have always worked well until I added some VAMP plugins into the Program (x86) file "Vamp Plugins"
Unfortunately, I find no way of avavoiding the following crash
using the AMC A6, Lenovo, 64 bit, computer,
running on Win 8.1
Nom d’événement de problème: APPCRASH
Nom de l’application: audacity.exe
Version de l’application: 2.1.0.0
Horodatage de l’application: 550fc657
Nom du module par défaut: qm-vamp-plugins.dll
Version du module par défaut: 0.0.0.0
Horodateur du module par défaut: 55f00082
Code de l’exception: c0000005
Décalage de l’exception: 00059d63
Version du système: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.768.101
Identificateur de paramètres régionaux: 1033
Information supplémentaire n° 1: 5861
Information supplémentaire n° 2: 5861822e1919d7c014bbb064c64908b2
Information supplémentaire n° 3: a10f
Information supplémentaire n° 4: a10ff7d2bb2516fdc753f9c34fc3b069
- inactivation of VAMP in "preferences" followed by rescan and UN check of qm-vamp-plugins.dll
results in a new crash upon "START".
- the only solution is to RENAME the "Vamp Plugins" file to
"Vamp Pluginsx", in which case Audacity starts well, but
Sonic VIsualizer re initialises itself, after "amputating" itself of all the useful plugins.
Might there be some "easy" solution to this, for someone like myself who has only superficial knowledge conerning computers?
Thank you very much.

Re: Audacity crashes when running plugin // qm-vamp-plugins.
When does the "old" crash happen when VAMP is enabled in Audacity Preferences and checked in the dialogue for loading plugins before Audacity starts?gkm wrote:I've used Audacity for a number of years, as well as Sonic Visualizer.

Have you tried leaving the VAMP Plugins folder named as expected, and unchecking the plugins in the loading dialogue?
Also where did you get this plugin set from? Is it v1.7 or v1.7.1 from https://code.soundsoftware.ac.uk/projec ... gins/files? I would guess on Windows 8.1 that you should use the latest v1.7.1.
You could also try the current Audacity 2.1.1 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. In that version the plugins are enabled later, using Effect > Manage... after launching Audacity.
