Removing reverb from a recording

Post by Dave1957 » Sun Mar 22, 2015 9:07 pm

Audacity 2.0.6; Windows 8.1

I recorded a speech on my iPhone in an arena used primarily for rodeos. Needless to say, it is not a quality recording but was the best that I could do. I am a "low level user" of audacity. I would like to know if there is a way to remove the reverb. I looked at the reverb effect but it looked like it only added reverb.

Thank you for any help you can give to me.

Post some of the show here. You can post five seconds in stereo WAV, ten seconds of mono WAV, or many seconds of MP3.

Don't get too excited. Very few people can take echo and reverb out of a recording. That's what kills people recording podcasts and audiobooks. If you don't record them clear and clean, you're dead.

Attached is about 1 minute of the speech as an MP3 file.

Thank you.
No.
The recordist was just too far in the back of the hall.

If you can't get your microphone in the speaker's face,

Or do a one-on-one,

Then the only other trick is stand next to a public address speaker and turn your recorder down.

The last trick isn't a trick. Use a long distance microphone.

I think that's the whole list.

There is one other "trick." I can't believe you were the only person to record that. Start calling around.

There was an old posting of a novel way to use Noise Removal to help bad echo performances along.

I haven't been able to help this recording much myself, but in the absence of other tools...

I've been messing with it for a half-hour. I can make it different bad. But not improve it.
