Recording audio from line-in of soundcard

Post by French » Sun Mar 22, 2015 6:53 pm

Hello,

I have tried to record the sound of the Dolphin Emulator so I connected the output to the line-in of my soundcard with a stereo jack
it seems impossible to record without doing this. I am a bit afraid of damaging my soundcard by doing this.

Here is the result:

It has started recording ok but then it start to be jerky however it work correct with any audio player.
It seems to have problem recording the emulator though I don't know really where the problem is.
Emulator? Soundcard? Audacity? Way of recording?

The Dolphin Emulator may be "hogging" the CPU & databus, causing the audio to drop-out.

You connected what to line-in? The soundcard's line-out to line-in? No, that won't damage anything.

What version of Windows and Audacity? See the pink panel at the top of this page.

How are you actually recording now - with a cable between line-out and line-in? You can also try Windows WASAPI host in Audacity if you are on Vista or later. See Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual.

I expect the dropouts are an issue of lack of resources given you are using an emulator. See Managing Computer Resources and Drivers for some things you could try to help.

audacity 2.10 rc2
audacity 2.0.6

windows xp sp3 home
Intel pentium 4
nvidia geforce gt 610
low end pci 5.1 soundcard

This is clearly not enough to play with an emulator but I can listen to the music when in game menu.
I thought it would be enough to record music but I obviously need I higher config or a second pc.
Solved.
Thanks.

Probably best to treat yourself to a new computer with a later version of Windows. This will also be much more secure.
