No monitor or record

Post by E4ODnut » Tue Mar 03, 2015 4:14 am

Hi,
I have an interesting problem. Fresh install, exe installer, Audacity 2.0.6, Lenovo Thinkpad Edge Laptop, Win 7 Pro, Samson USB Go Mic. I can not get Audacity to record, or even monitor this mic, or any mic for that matter. It recognizes it, the drivers are up to date and supposedly working OK, but no response from Audacity.

The interesting part is that I just did the same install on my older PC running Win 7 home and it has no problem with the Go Mic.

I have no clue what I am doing wrong so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Audacity doesn't get its sound from the computer. It get it from Windows. Does Windows know it's there? Go down Windows control panels and make sure the mic shows and the little Windows sound meter shows bouncing when you speak or scratch.

Hi Koz,
Thanks for the quick come back.

I went to Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game Controller > found Samson GoMic (like before) and it reported to be working properly (like before).

Then I went to ther Realtek HD Audio Manager to Sound Devices and made sure that Samson GoMic was selected as default (like before).

Then I opened Audacaty, and tried to monitor. Voila, it worked (not like before ). Then I tried to record, and it worked (not like before).

I have no idea what I did, but things appear to be working. I guess you just had to wave your magic wand, or something like that.

Thanks a bunch.

I do remember Windows doing that to me on several occasions. The panel says the right things, but Windows doesn't execute until you open the panel to look at it.

I agree. Use the Windows Sound Control Panel for troubleshooting.

Thanks again both. I'll file that away for future reference.
