mixing

Hi folks.using win7...first post. new to the pgm. question..is it possible to continue to see mixing board and adjust volumes while song is playing. It seems to click off after an adjustment. part 2, can I change volumes on a track during performance and have it remain while mixing. thanks

Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. It's a future program feature.

thanks for your quick reply. Perhaps I stated my question poorly. when i said performance i meant playback, i am trying to playback three or four tracks and while listening to them make adjustments. Ala using a mixing board and having the result go to another set of tracks or like having a second machine or mix down. so when I play that back, all my fader and eq, reverb etc.adjustments are heard and saved. sorry for being so long winded.thanks

Also known as real time processing. Unless somebody corrects me, you'd be doing that in separate steps.

Make an adjustment.
Listen to it.
Make another adjustment.
Listen to it.

If you were full-on overdubbing with a hardware mixer, then yes, you can make real-time changes to the playback tracks or the live work on the hardware mixer while you're performing, although in that case, it pays handsomely to perform clean and cold and do the effects in post production like the big kids. If you mix it hot, you can't change your mind later. We can't split apart a mixed performance into individual instruments.

Of course, if your goal is to perform live on a stage, then this isn't doing you any good at all, is it?

Correction: The Mixer Board is just an "extension" of the track Gain controls http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/au ... .html#gain
Adjusting track gain on playback is one of the very few things that you can do in real-time.

Yes it should be, though I'm not sure if Windows provides a way to keep one window "on top" (I use Linux and Linux provides an option to keep a window in the foreground). If that option is not available on Windows then you would need to resize/move the main Audacity window so that you can see the mixer window.

I'm not clear what you mean. Could you describe that in more detail - it does not sound like something that should be happening.

"Always on top" is not built into Windows but there are a number of applications you can download that do it. See http://www.howtogeek.com/196958/the-3-b ... n-windows/ for some ideas.
