Hi, I'm using a Canopus ADVC-110 for video capturing and would like to use it with Audacity for audio recording.
I cannot select it in sources. Would this be a problem with my computer or a Windows setting? Thanks
My PCI Firewire Card is listed in device manager with the correct drivers installed.
Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Audacity 2.0.6 installed from a .exe

Re: Firewire Device Not Showing Up In Sources
My ADVC-100 has a firewire DV connection. Video, not sound. You can capture your work as a video and then split off the sound using export from your video editor. You're going to need the video editor anyway if you want to put the corrected sound back into the show.
Audacity doesn't speak video (last I checked).
If you do a lot of video, you should get familiar with 48000 rate instead of 44100. It's slightly higher fidelity and there's less standards converting.

The ADVC-110 will do sound only, this model has a dip switch to select this. I have a lot of FM college radio recorded on vhs and beta hifi. I'm using windv to capture the audio, the file I get opens in Audacity no problem.

But you want to do it direct.
Does the sound device show up in Windows Control Panels? Audacity gets sound from the computer, not the device. If the sound device doesn't show up, working, in Windows, that's the end of the story.
My old Win7 had a control panel with little sound meters to help with diagnostics. Can you find such a thing?

Thanks all for taking the time to help.
Shows up in devices and printers as av /c tape recorder /player and in device manager imaging devices.
I'm getting good recordings using a direct cable from the vcr to the on board audios line in connector.

If you have a computer with a blue stereo line-in connector, then you win.I'm getting good recordings using a direct cable from the vcr to the on board audios line in connector.
