Can't recover my audio files

Post by DaZeT » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:30 pm

Version of audacity I used 2.0.5
Here I go..
I was recording with audacity for about 30 minutes. Everything was ok but my computer crashed. When I turned my pc on again I immediately opened audacity to recover my audio file, when it starts recovering it my pc crashes again.
In frustration I turned my pc on again, but when I try to recover my audio file an error appears like "Audacity couldn't recognized the type of this file".
I'm using windows 8.1, I recorded with my headphones "CM STORM Sirus - 5.1"
Please help

These days, about the only thing that can cause a complete "crash" is if there is a problem with a device driver.
Because Audacity makes heavy use of the sound card, the sound card driver is the most likely culprit, though it could conceivably be any other device driver.

The first thing that you should do is to check that you have the correct drivers installed for your sound card. There is some information on this page to help with that:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Updat ... ce_Drivers
Note that it is essential that the sound card drivers are correct for both the sound card device, and for the version of Windows that you are using.

What exactly are you doing that leads to that error message?
Also, please quote the exact error message.

The error appears when I start audacity and it asks me if I want to recover my not-saved audio file.
The error message is: "Audacity didn't recognize the type of file and if uncompressed, try importing it using 'Import Raw'".

The AUTOSAVE file Audacity is trying to recover from is probably corrupted.

Follow these instructions to see hidden files and folders in Windows 8.

In File Explorer, go to

Code: Select all

Users<your user name>AppDataRoamingAudacityAutoSave

Attach the AUTOSAVE file you find in the AutoSave folder for us. Please see here for how to attach files: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 49&t=64936.

If you see any TMP files in the AutoSave folder, attach the latest TMP file too.

Unfortunately that file is totally corrupted. Nothing in there to salvage.

Please check out everything in this FAQ including looking at the "crash dump": Why does the computer reboot or show a blue screen message when I launch Audacity or play or record?.

Otherwise the same problem will happen again sooner or later.
