Can't Record Web Streaming

Post by Nurk Twin » Fri Jan 09, 2015 10:30 pm

I'm having problems getting any kind of recording from streaming audio. I am trying to record archived podcasts of approx. 1 hour. As far as I can tell the podcasts use Adobe Flash.

Win 7, Audacity 2.0.6. executive installer.
I don't have a separate sound card, just onboard sound. There is no 'stereo mix' or 'loopback' listed under my recording devices. I have no speakers, and I just use headphones for everything.

I've tried all the different combinations WASAPI, MME, Windows Direct, etc.

Frustrated,. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you go down the list we posted or are you shot-gunning from other postings?

Some computers just can't do this. The desperation method is electrical, not digital.

Plug in a Behringer UCA202 or equivalent and jumper the two lefts together and the two rights together. Set the computer to play to it and Audacity to record from it. The UCA202 uses very high quality parts inside and so almost always works pretty well. Other adapters, you take your chances.

Instead of connecting it to the mixer, connect it to itself.

Thanks. yes, I went through the whole list in the wiki/manual. I couldn't even get a wave form through metering.

The Behringer UCA202 is about $35. About twice the cost as Total Recorder.

See ya.

Does "See ya" mean you have fixed the problem by buying something, or you still need help?

If you still need help, did you read this page thoroughly: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu ... ndows.html?

What happens when you do this:
  1. In Audacity, open Device Toolbar - here it is outlined in red:
    [windevtool][/windevtool]
  2. In the first (Host) box of Device Toolbar, choose "Windows WASAPI".
  3. In the second (Playback Device) box in Device Toolbar, choose the Headphones that you are using for listening.
  4. In the third (Recording Device) box in Device Toolbar, choose the (loopback) input for the same Headphones device you chose in step 3. For example, if you chose "Headphones" in Step 3, choose "Headphones (loopback)" in this step.
  5. In the fourth (Input Channels) box in Device Toolbar, choose mono or stereo.
  6. Start playing the audio you want to record.
  7. Press the big red Record button in Audacity.
Naturally we assume you have copyright holders' permission to record what you want to record.
