Move one note in track w/o affecting the rest of the track

Hello folks! I'm having some slight latency issues which have affected only portions of a track.

For example, one note in a sequence of notes starts late, but the other notes seem on beat. Is there a way to move just one "note," or a portion of a track without affecting the other notes in the track?

Right now I'm manually cutting the note, pasting to the left and then lining up the rest of the track. Is there a better way to do this?

A crossfade might work better than a hard cut & splice.

This is a very tricky thing to do. There are tools to quantize audio, but I don't know if there are any free tools. Some versions of Melodyne can do it.

Is there a better way to do this?

Note that "quantize" has a couple of different meanings... When continuous audio is digitized, that's also called quantization.

You have a celebrity. Normally when a computer can't keep up, you get blank spots in the timeline and there are notes just flat missing. It's rough to think of a scenario where the computer stops to think about it and then catches up off rhythm. Do you get spots with no blue wave at all or blue waves that go flat. Can you post a screen grab of one of the damage point time lines.

Are you using local storage; the drive inside the computer?

Koz, Yes, I'm using local storage on a 6-month old desktop. Shouldn't be an issue with performance in that regard.

In the example track, you can see that Audacity corrected the time lag by shifting the track prior to zero start. No big deal there. I've highlighted four main time pieces - the issue is that the first one should have been delayed prior to that mark on the click track, but the others line up in the spots where needed.

So, whether it's my bad timing (99%) and/or Audacity at play, what's the easiest way to shift any of those notes in the boxes without moving any of the other parts of the track?

I guess what I'm trying to do is "stretch" or "shrink" a portion of it...

Oh. You're overdubbing versus a click track. Good to have known that at the beginning.

So we're not solving a technical problem. We're making up for you having no rhythm.

There's no good formal way to fix that. All we got is what's posted so far.
