I'm experiencing a problem I've never had with Audacity. Whenever I click record, Audacity seems to lock up for a few seconds, then a new track appears but there is another couple second delay, and then it starts to record. This is really inconvenient. In addition, pressing the play button also makes Audacity lock up for a few seconds, as does the stop button. I typically record from Stereo Mix, although recording from a microphone results in the exact same problem. In fact, switching the source audio also makes Audacity lock up for a few seconds.
I have never had this problem before. I am using Audacity 2.0.6 although I was experiencing this problem with an earlier version, but when I updated to this version to see if the problem would be fixed, the problem remained. I'm also using Windows 8.1.
Sorry if this has been answered already, but I couldn't find any help when I searched.

Re: Few seconds delay when I try to record, stop, play, etc.
Does the hard drive light go nuts while it's locking up? Are you capturing to the internal drive, how big is it and how much room do you have?
What are you recording normally? Does it still do that if you disconnect WiFi and the network and restart?

I'm pretty ignorant of computer stuff, so if I don't answer these questions very well please forgive me haha.kozikowski wrote:Does the hard drive light go nuts while it's locking up? Are you capturing to the internal drive, how big is it and how much room do you have?

The hard drive light stays lit like normal when this happens.
I guess I'm capturing to the internal drive..? I don't know, I guess whatever the default setting is for Audacity. My C: drive has 356 GB free out of 417 GB if that helps.
I record small clips of music for my YouTube videos. I usually use Spotify or iTunes. Other times I'll use a microphone to record my voice. Either way the locking up occurs.
Disconnecting WiFi did not fix the problem.
Okay I somehow forgot to do what I should always try in these situations: restarting the computer. Turns out this fixed the problem! Not sure what was going wrong in the first place, but everything seems to be working fine now haha.
Thanks for the reply!
