Windows 7 - I have a C-media USB Audio Device microphone and Windows Control Panel sees it and knows it is there and it is the currently active device in Control Panel, but that device is NOT listed in the microphones devices in Audacity. how do I fix that??

Restart Audacity. Audacity checks for new devices when it starts. You can also Transport > Rescan ...

You can also get crossed up if Audacity is looking for a stereo device and the microphone is mono.

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices.
