Is there a way to split a large wav file into segments, but have each segment cut at a break in the sound?
Like say I have a 1 hour recording of a pod cast... and I want to cut it into 20 min sections.. or around that size... and when the cut is made it is only made when I am not talking?
I know about the CTRL+B and then "Export Multipule" thing.. I was wondering if there was a way to automate it is all.
Thanks in advance

See Splitting a recording into separate tracks. The "automation" is the placing of labels at detected silence.
The current version of Audacity is 2.0.6 http://audacityteam.org/download/windows.

Re: [2.0.4] - Is there a way to splt a large wav file into..
yeah, but if I understand that it looks for gaps of silence. Sort of like for splitting music tracks fomr a single recording into individual tracks.. but as this is a recording of a voice ... there is gaps of silence all over the place so it splits it into like 500zillion files.

20 mins into 1 hour, that's 3 sections right?Jynks wrote:Is there a way to split a large wav file into segments, but have each segment cut at a break in the sound?

Put the (2 or 3) labels in manually (Ctrl+B), then follow the rest of the procedure to export multiple files. Is there a problem with that?Jynks wrote:yeah, but if I understand that it looks for gaps of silence. Re: [2.0.4] - Is there a way to splt a large wav file into..
I was wondering if there is a way to automate it. That was just an example. What I am in fact doing is recording a audio track for video. I use a application to sync the audio to the video, so I can use diffrent cameras and all this stuff. The audio syncs best if it syncs many files instead of one, so I would like to split the audio into say 5 min chunks.. so a take might be 50 mins total footage. Blah blah blah.
What I was wondering is if there is a way to automate the adding of track info, like the noise gap thing in thew wiki, but have the app ONLY look for a gap after a set period of time. So.. find the 1st gap in the audio after a "5 minuet interval".. then after 5 mins, look for a new gap to add as the second track.. etc etc
Sorry if I am not being clear.

That's a feature request for Sound Finder or Silence Finder. Does the attached Sound Finder help that has a "Minimum Label length (minutes)" control? This labels the sounds of the required length. Put it in the Audacity Plug-Ins folder and restart Audacity.Jynks wrote:find the 1st gap in the audio after a "5 minuet interval".. then after 5 mins, look for a new gap to add as the second track.. etc etc.
It's Steve's plugin, not mine - one of many iterations tried out to update and/or make one plugin out of Sound Finder and Silence Finder.
