I suggest you open Windows Device Manager. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers". You may find yellow exclamation marks there. I suggest you uninstall all the audio devices, don't reboot, go to the HP web site then download the latest Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit audio drivers for your HP Pavilion dm4 Notebook PC. Install the drivers then reboot.
