Because currently only built in effects and Nyquist plug-ins are supported in Chains.

Um... if it's neither "built-in" nor Nyquist, then what is it? There is a third kind?

It's a LADSPA plug-in: http://www.ladspa.org/
There are also VST plug-ins (mostly Windows) and Audio Units (AU) plug-ins (Mac only).

The "Plug-ins and Libraries" page on the main Audacity web site says a bit about different plug-in types: http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins

For detailed information, including descriptions of all effects that are shipped as standard, see the Effects section in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/effect_menu.html

Thanks.

I see Noise Removal is available for chains, but the parameters are not listed. I Have not tried It in a chain yet. It also has that frst step which is dependent on selection. I am not sure what to expect if I try it.

  • If a Noise Profile exists, that Noise Profile will be used.
  • If a Noise Profile does not exist:
    • If the Chain is applied to files, the first file (all of it) is used to create the Noise Profile.
    • If the Chain is applied to the current project, the current Selection is used to create the Noise Profile.

I've updated the alpha 2.0.6 documentation, the Noise Removal Page, with this - and added a link back to that from the Chains page.
