Zero sound on playback

Audacity version 2.0.5 on windows 7(64). No previous problem with audacity, mic, sound all work normally on the computer. Tried recording on audacity this a.m. for the first time in a few months, and got no sound on playback. Thought my version might be out of date so I downloaded the latest one. Still zero sound on playback. There is no muting of either audacity or the computer sound system. I obtained the latest version through the .exe installer

The only thing I can think of is that recently I had other software on the system to record my skype interviews, but I didn't like it so I uninstalled it. If there is a bit somewhere left behind I wouldn't know how to track it down. Not sure if this was the issue or not.

Hi vicky2810,
Be sure to check out the recording/playback device on device toolbar.
If you don't see that toolbar, you can turn it on from "View > Toolbars" menu.

The bar is a shortcut. You can also get there with Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices.

Press the yellow Stop button.

Unless you do that you won't be able to open Preferences either.
