Cannot oppen .mogg or .ogg files

Post by SevenSalmon » Tue Apr 22, 2014 12:34 am

Hello. I'm using Audacity 2.0.5. and I have the ffmpeg installed. I cannot open any file, I just get a message saying I should open it raw when I try to open it normally. When I do try to open it raw, all I get for audio are large, sustaining bleeps.

OGG is a container format so it depends what format is in the container.

MOGG are multi-channel OGG files. Audacity doesn't officially support MOGG and may choke on large MOGG files. Also MOGG files are often encrypted, so first you have to break the encryption, assuming you have permission to do that.

OGG/MOGG is compressed and won't be openable using Import Raw Data.

You could get "MediaInfo" from http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows to get more information about the files. Get the version without installer, because the installer may have malware.

You can also open the files in a hex editor such as http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD and search for "encoder" (without quotes). This may tell you what application encoded the file - that application may be able to play it.

Re: Cannot fully open .mogg files

I just upgraded to Audacity V2.1.2 and went to open a .mogg file I had stored on my desktop PC. (I'm running Windows 8.1.) When I try to do so, the file will open, but only ~30 seconds is accessible. I can't figure out how to get the entire file to play. Any ideas?

Probably the easiest way would be to use some other program to convert the file into a format that is supported by Audacity.
Do you know for sure that the file is OK?
