No stereo recording on Windows 8[SOLVED]

Post by tantemac » Tue Jan 21, 2014 5:30 am

I also use an HP computer with Windows 8. I just noticed the other day that when I tried to record a stereo recording I only got a mono signal. I get both tracks, but it's mono. I tried loading the lastest version of Audacity down, but that didn't help. I also tried swapping the cables, but that didn't help. It doesn't matter which source I use, DVD, CD, turntable or radio, it's the same. I've checked every setting I'm aware of, and it all seems to be set up correctly. Can anyone help?

I have an HP laptop and had exactly the same problem - the solution is to right-click on the speaker icon (bottom right of the screen) and select Recording Devices. Highlight the Device you had selected in Audacity and then select Properties. Select the Advanced tab and check what is currently selected. Mine was originally set to 1 channel - select "2 channel, 16 bit, 48000Hz" and then select Apply - Audacity should now record in Stereo. :P
