Update for 1-6-2014
Ran Audacity today.
Put Norton AV into "Silent Mode"
No errors. Everything recorded fine and saved fine with no errors.

I havent changed anything in terms of the way of what im doing.
I havent done any of the recommended steps listed in this post yet, because i want to run Audacity without making any changes to the computer so try to identify if Norton is the culprit.

A few more runs with Norton in silent mode to confirm.
Then i may try and let Norton do its thing and see if i get errors.

I will keep you all informed of what i find as we progress.

Thanks for all your thoughts and advice so far.
If its not Norton, ill have to begin the process of going through some of the recommendations one at a time and seeing what the effect of each change is.
Because this computer only records once or twice a week, this may take some time.

Update for 2-9-2014
Ran Audacity today.
Put Norton AV into "Silent Mode"
No errors. Everything recorded fine and saved fine with no errors.

This is the third week with the same results.

I think were gonna have to file this one away in the "Solved File"

If any errors of the same description pop up again, i will attempt to find and revive this thread with updates.

But for now, i think that Norton Anti Virus is the cause of these problems.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Thanks, Theophilus20.

Have you seen any of the errors saving projects or saving autosave files since you set Norton to "Silent Mode"?

Silent Mode is supposedly only suppressing alerts, not stopping it doing its work, according to: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/hom ... 2012_en_us .

Did you ever establish that the AU files are removed from the _data folder or temporary folder when the project audio flatlines? The other user appeared to indicate that Norton's "Windows temporary file cleaner" was cleaning up audio that had not yet been saved to a project.

No. No errors since switching to "Silent Mode".

So, there is a possibility that the Norton notification pop ups that you get when Norton is doing something is in the back ground is the cause.

No, I would have to wait for another error in order to check that. I havnt had any other errors.
If errors ever do appear again i will check that and report back.
