Is it possible to run a script?

Hi everyone.

Good morning.

I am using Audacity 2.0.5 (the exe installer) in Windows XP to record DAB radio via the Line-In blue port on my PC with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

This all works perfectly though. The PC is brand new and only a few months old.

It's a Dual-Core G620 processor running at 2.6Ghz with 4GB RAM - Windows XP only sees 3.5GB.

My question is this.

Is it at all possible to run a script of some sort in Windows so that the PC can automatically start to record whatever is playing using Audacity at a set/given time and then stop recording at a set/given time?

Grateful for any advice as to whether this can be done or not.

There is a Timer Record facility already built into Audacity - it is available from the Transport menu, it works well I use it a lot.

Unfortunately this is only a single-event timer right now - there is a long-standing Feature Request to make it a multi-event timer.

Contact Edgar, he has made a command line version of Audacity that can be scheduled for this purpose.

You can also schedule any command line program with XP''s "scheduler" (see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308569), so for example, you could record with SoX (http://sox.sourceforge.net/) or any other command line recorder.

You actually will need this scheduler, Edgar's version gives only the possibility to record for a certain time, but not when the recording will be started. However, it provides automatic file names, such that the previous file won't be over-written.

I have tried to use that feature and it works fine.

On another note, how does the program AudRemote work?

I tried that earlier today, and it worked fine initially. When it came to making a scheduled recording, it recorded it fine, but did not stop at the scheduled time. I had to stop it myself.

Any ideas why?

I presume that you mean this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/audaremote/
That's not our product. You'll have to ask developer of that application.
It does not appear to have been updated since 2005 so there's no guarantee that it is supported by anyone and may not work with the current version of Audacity (assuming it ever worked - there are no reviews and only 7 downloads registered on Sourceforge).

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I have done some of my own tinkering with Audaremote and it seems to work well with Audacity 2.0.5 running under Windows XP.

The thing I have noticed is that if I minimise this application, it does not work.

If I run/dock it in the corner, all works well.

I will see if this one meets my needs as it saves automatically once the recording finishes.

Does Audacity 2.0.5 auto-save and shut down once a recording completes or not?

It's item 8 of the proposed features - and it's needed for item 7, the multi-event timer.
