That's exactly the way to go. There's a lot of stuff available already transcribed but good musicians will always do it by themselves. It develops greatly your hearing ability and sense for timing phrasing and so on.gord29 wrote:Thanks again I think I understand most of that. It's good to learn stuff. Now I can do it on my own. And it's interesting how when you slow a piece down you hear definite phrases like a complete sentence or thought (which you can then learn) unlike before when I only heard a longer solo.
The goal isn't to copy the original one to one but rather to pick up new ideas and to see what the whole picture is made of.
