I'm a long time user of Audacity but my PC failed and I'm now on a new PC. I downloaded Audacity 2.0.3 and the PC I have is Windows 7 / Beats Audio HP PC.
I tried to record audio from my sound card and the recording (not the audio I hear when I record it) sounds a bit like it's playing through a leslie speaker - maybe a tin can. Found another thread with someone who described their recording sounding like a tin can and I think I checked everything he was instructed to do - though I think in that case he was using an internal microphone as a recording device.
I have two active recording devices - line in and stereo mix. At first I tried with both enabled and then tried to disable one of them at a time. When using line-in, I can't recording anything. When I use stereo mix (Windows Direct Sound, Primary Sound Driver, Primary Sound Capture Driver, 2 (Stereo) Input Channel) with only stereo mix enabled, I get the same tinny/leslie sounding recording. I experimented and changed the settings on Audio Host and Input Device and no joy.
I experimented and kept changing different settings (including under Preferences: Quality > Sample Rate Converter) and nothing I did would stop that leslie sounding recording.
Thoughts?

Make sure you have followed this to begin with
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... hancements .
See also http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu ... ndows.html .
Note that "Beats Audio" is well known to be problematic. You may need to ask HP if they will fund a USB sound card (some of these support stereo mix).

Re: Leslie speaker sounding recording
Hi Gale -
I saw both of those links and walked through them. My recording devices properties doesn't have an "enhancements" tab and I did walk through all the other settings in the other link. Anyone else with an HP PC with Beats Audio having a similar issue?

Yes, we've had other postings with "Beats Audio" problems. Run away.

You can look at the other users' topics about Beats Audio here

There is nothing we can do if nothing in those topics helps - contact HP.
