When using draw objects, primarily the draw tool, when use of the tool is finished, how do you turn off the tool to return the cursor to its normal functions?

Either click the button for the normal "Selection Tool", http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tools_toolbar.html
or press the F1 key.

I tried clicking on the selected tool icon, and it had no effect (The tool was still selected.) However, pressing F1 did the job, and deselected the tool function. Thank you for your quick response. I am finding the program very useful in putting my old vinyl into CD format. The developers have done a great job!
