can you set to record only when input is given?

can you set to record only when input is given?
Like "spy mode" in some other recording software that is limited?

Audacity has "Sound Activated Recording."
Edit > Preferences > Recording > Sound Activated...

I just downloaded it, and all of the settings and available info online can be overwhelming until I learn the software better. You saved me a good deal of time and stress. This software is pretty sweet! I will cherish it always.
