hiss while recording

Post by hoakieman » Thu Mar 07, 2013 1:17 am

Just bought a Dynex mic from Best Buy, when I record voice as in reading and recording, i notice a definite "hiss" that is present while recording and in play back. I have windows 7 and the newest Audacity version. The Mic is a USB and I have played with the input volume, but it doesn't help.

I have played with the input volume, but it doesn't help.
Can you make it worse? Sometimes beginning able to change it either direction is valuable. USB microphones have to come with very conservative, low loudness settings because low volume is correctable but high volume is not. Once you overload a USB microphone system, that's the end of the show.

How far away from the microphone are you? This is about right.

Koz, thanks for the info about overloading the Mic. The manual mentioned setting at abut 6 so I did with no discernible result. I do record at the distance shown in your image. I will continue to lower the input mic settings. Hoakieman
