Playback suddenly sounds squeezed

Help for Audacity on Windows.

Playback suddenly sounds squeezed

I've been using Audacity for several years now, and when I got a new HP computer a few months ago I loaded Audacity 2.0.2. It worked fine for my first project, but when I went to use it the other day the playback sounded hollow, squeezed and clipped. (Doesn't matter what the source is.) I fooled around with all the setting I could find, and did happen upon a combination of procedures that fixed the problem. However, after shutting down and rebooting the computer the problem reappeared. Now I can't get it running right again---I forgot what I had done to correct it. I even deleted the program and reloaded it from your site, but the problem remains. I'll also add that the wave form appears a bit squeezed itself.
