Hi,

My PC hard drive died and I'm on a newer PC now running XP Por on 32 bit. I've downloaded Audacity for Widows and I'm trying to follow the directions I printed so I can save portions of audio in .MP3, .amr and .wav (uncompressed) using Audacity 2.0.2

I returned to the Audacity download page and clicked on Plug Ins and I'm taken to...

http://lame1.buanzo.com.ar/

FFMpeg Binary compatible with Audacity 1.3.13, 2.x or later on Windows (THIS IS NOT LAME!):
FFmpeg_v0.6.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe - (ZIP version - here)

Do I want the zip file?

The notes I have are about an installer? Where would I find the installer instead of the zip file?

I'm not sure where to find the correct FFMpeg file so I can save audio in .MP3, .amr and .wav with Audacity on my PC?

Thank you for your help.

The EXE file is the "installer". You don't need the ZIP file unless you want to un-ZIP it manually.

You don't need anything extra to export to (save as) WAV.

You need LAME (not FFMPEG) to export to MP3.

I don't know what an AMR file is... The FFMPEG Documentation says it requires an external encoder, and I have no idea if that external file is included with the Audacity version.

BTW - When you want to create an audio file, don't "save". Use File -> Export.

.amr is the file format for many cell phones.

On my other PC, I was able to save the file as .amr and now I would like to save as *both* .amr and mp3.

I installed Audacity.

But, now I need to know if have all the files to export to .amr and MP3.

I recall there were 4 other files I had to go back and download and install but when I return now I don't see those 4 files listed - just some reference to LAME and a zipped file - I'm not sure what all that is referencing.

There was mention that FFMPEG was need to export to .amr and MP3.

Is Gail available, please?

You need LAME to export MP3 files: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... g-Ins#lame
You need FFMpeg to export AMR (narrow band) files: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... Ins#ffdown
