The exception error occured first when attempting to open a project. The not responsive error occurs when I try to perform any task, including changing from Presonus to the onboard sound card.
I don't use a screensaver to that's not an issue.
Attached is a screenshot of the Power Settings.
I haven't contacted PreSonus about this but once I finish this current project I'll have time to sit down and give them a step by step explanation. Possibly there is a driver problem with the Presonus. I'll keep you posted.

I once had a similar problem with an USB bluetooth adapter. It would become unresponsive if I left the computer sit idle for a while. The culprit turned out to be Windows USB Power Management. After I turned off all USB power management the problem went away. I'm not sure if this is your problem but it might be worth a try.
- Open the "Start" menu and click on "Run."
Type "devmgmt.msc" and press the "OK" button.
Open the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section of the "Device Manager" window.
Right-click on the first entry of the "USB Root Hub" list and select "Properties."
Click the "Power Management" tab and uncheck the check box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power," then click the "OK" button.
Repeat for each of the "USB Root Hub" entries present in the "Device Manager" list.

Leaving Audacity open with a blank screen works. I could use all functions normally. I will do this for a day or two to prove the point.

I am unclear if the inbuilt sound device has this issue (that is, if you simply disconnected and did not use the Presonus, would Audacity still not respond if you launched it in the morning after quitting at night?) At the moment I do suspect the Presonus.
If leaving Audacity running overnight does fix the problem, what happens if you quit Audacity overnight, restart it in the morning but do Transport > Rescan Audio Devices before trying to record?

One step at a time
I will physically disconnect the Presonus overnight and launch it again in the morning and see.
I didn't know about Transport>REscan but that will be my next project.

Neither of those solutions was successful.

OK, please keep Audacity running overnight and see if you can still record with Presonus or built-in audio the next morning.
