skipping and pitch variation on recording tape via usb -xp

I'm having a problem with recording from a cassette player via usb.Till recently everything has been fine. now the recording has bits that change speed/ pitch and skip. i also notice the pause "button" flashes on and off . I'm not very technical,but can anyone offer any help please?

Is it a problem with the analog tape playback, or only with the digital recording.

If it's a computer problem, it sounds like your CPU is multitasking and the recording is getting interrupted. Are you runnng any other applications while recording? (Even if you are not running other apps, Windows is always doing stuff in the background. Anti-virus running in the background can sometimes cause problems too.)
