I'm running 2.0.1 on Windows XP x32 SP3, and I'm having some trouble recording my mic during my Skype calls, or more specifically, I can't record my mic and the speakers at the same time. I have tried Mono and Stereo Mix and it records sound from the speakers just fine from both, but no luck with the mic. Now I have tried a usb mic and a mic that connects to the red jack in the back of the computer, (the name escapes me at the moment) and it still won't record the mic.
In the control panel, I have checked the respective boxes (Wave, Stereo and Mono Mix, and Mic) for playback and recording, and I have made sure nothing is muted. Is there some setting I'm missing or is the sound card at fault?

Re: No Feedback From Mic in Stereo/Mono Mix
Yes. Audacity will not record both sides of a Skype call.Is there some setting I'm missing...
There was also a YouTube video from someone who claimed to be able to get Audacity to record both sides of a Skype call. We suspect he was recording an open microphone rather than the actual direct feed.On Windows machines, you can use Pamela Business or Professional (not the other two) or Total Recorder. There was another one, too. Skype Recorder??
Skype is vicious about taking over the sound channels in a computer. That's how it manages to do such a good job with echo cancellation, volume management, direction sensing etc. If it had to struggle against other software it would never work as well.

It's not just Skype. Audacity never records the mic in Stereo/Mono Mix. Even when it's the only program running.Audacity will not record both sides of a Skype call.

Re: No Feedback From Mic in Stereo/Mono Mix
It will if you can make the mic input go to the output then record stereo mix, but recent Windows Vista / 7 computers cannot usually make the mic play through to the output in hardware (only in software which has a lot of latency).zippy wrote:Audacity will not record both sides of a Skype call.
On XP, unmuting the mic on the Playback side of Windows Sounds and Audio Devices should do what you want, but there is no guarantee.
Even if it works, you will record both sides together, not in a separate channel.
Better to use one of these instead:

That did it actually. I'm not totally sure how I missed it, maybe I just checked the box and didn't make sure if it was muted or not. Thanks for the help, man, I really appreciate it!Unmuting the mic on the Playback side of Windows Sounds and Audio Devices should do what you want, but there is no guarantee.
