Gale:
I got the error at the very end on my very first sliding time scale/pitch shift attempt with "audacity_bug_557.exe". I set the quality to 32 bit float.

Thanks.
I don't think I built that version incorrectly, but to be sure, could you quit all versions of Audacity then download and unzip
http://gaclrecords.org.uk/win-nightly/a ... r11859.zip ?
This time, extract the whole zip contents to a new folder and launch "audacity.exe" from that new folder.
Thanks for your help.

I uninstalled audacity 2.0.1 and then unzipped into a new folder on my c: drive. Launched audacity from there and did the same thing as before. Got the same crash (error) at the end of the process.

Did you miss my last reply?
It did not work. Got the same crash at the very end of the sliding time scale/pitch shift process with 32 bit float.

Yes I saw it, and re-opened the bug. And someone else on XP e-mailed to report similar behaviour.
But unless Clayton can find a copy of XP, or you can install Visual Studio and run a debug version of Audacity from it, it may be hard to find the cause of the problem.

Thanks for replying. Keep me informed if you come up with something. For my personal purposes, I am and have always been happy with XP. I hope to be keeping my xp desktop for a long time but might purchase another one next year with windows 7 just to be safe.

You might want to be quick as Windows 8 is due out within the next 12 months.
Like you I was very happy to have XP on both my desktop and my laptop - bit the laptop died big-time recently so I bought a new Tosh which came with W7 on it and was very pleased to find Audacity runs sweetly on it
(I even managed to get it to record streaming audio).

Windows 8 is due out on October 26th (2012). We may be caught out by it unless we get testing soon.

Gale and Waxcylinder:
If that is the case, then I will probably wait longer to purchase another new box until Windows 8 has been established and all my current software has been upgraded to be compatible with it.
My current XP box shows no signs of declining so time is definitely on my side.

It was the announcement of the end of XP (back in 2008) that prompted me to switch to Linux (and having seen and used later versions of Windows it's a move that I've not regretted).
