Imput mic volume

I am using Audacity 2.0 and I am just learning how to use it. I am trying to record my voice onto the computer, Dell Inspiron with Win7 and it has a built in mic. But when I move the input volume slider down all the way, the meter is still monitoring my voice. I would like to control the volume myself. It is too loud even with the slider all the way down. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Topic moved to the Windows forum.

Check the recording settings in the Windows Sound control panel.
Ensure that all "enhancements" are turned off and set the recording level lower.
See here for how to get to those settings: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp

Also see "Why do my recordings fade out or sound as if they were made in a tunnel?" for turning off the "enhancements".
