2 copies of Audacity running

I’m using windows 11, and I got a popup telling me to update, so I did. But now when I try to open Audacity, it tells me
“The system has detected that another copy of Audacity is running. Running two copies of Audacity simultaneously may cause data loss or cause your system to crash. Use the New or One commands in the currently running Audacity process to open multiple projects simultaneously.”

I already uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity, but even after that it still tells me I have another copy of Audacity running, even though I can’t find it anywhere on my computer. How can I solve this?

Have a look in Task Manager for what’s running on your Windows OS.
If there is an extra copy of Audacity running it will be visible, and can be ended …

Task Manager, end Audcaity.gif

I found a folder with audacity.exe in it, but I can’t uninstall it

If you run Task Manager, locate Audacity, then select End task as Trebor has suggested, you should then be able to uninstall it. If that doesn’t work, restart your computer and try again.
