Auto file saving and auto setting record length

Hi,
I have Windows 10, Audacity 2.3.3

I’m trying to measure and document sporadic loud traffic noise near our home.
I can see how to set up Audacity so that it only records when the noise exceeds a specific level and I know how to save the record files with date/time, but have a couple of questions:

  1. Is there a way to have the program self-save each noise incident recording to a separate file?

  2. Is there a way to get it to save a couple of seconds PRIOR to the incident of the threshold breaking noise as well as a couple of seconds AFTER the incident?

I’ve found phone apps that can do these things but can’t dedicate my phone for this activity, while I have do a spare PC that I can use for this.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.
Sincerely,
David

No - although this feature has been requested before.

Ditto.

You could start an enhancement request for these features at GitHub - audacity/audacity: Audio Editor

I did a quick check on Google for “sound activated recording software” and found a few recorders out there that at least have free trials. You will have to check with them to see if they have all of the features you need.
