Cannot assign Audacity as default app

On previous Windows versions, there has been no issue to make Audacity the default app for music files, but I’ve have been unable to do so on Windows 11. Settings>Apps & Features recognizes Audacity, but in Settings>Default Apps, Audacity does not show as a possible app. The same is true for right clicking on the music file itself to choose the app to ‘Open With’ and ‘Choose Another App’. I have uninstalled/reinstalled twice. There isn’t a problem using Audacity by launching it and then opening a file. Help!

Did you install Audacity on your machine, or just run the .exe from an unzipped download.

Microsoft says that apps must be installed before you can choose them as default apps.
