Grrr! Audacity keeps trying to loop during editing

Working on editing my first recording in Audacity. (Windows 10). When I try to move the green cursor to cut out a section that needs to be removed, rather than allowing me to move back to the part of the audio I want to edit, at least half the time, Audacity tells me it wants to create a loop, rather than just letting me move the damn cursor. It’s driving me buggy. I can’t even figure out how to get OUT of the loop thing, so I end up closing the project, opening it again, and then repeating the same annoying process where only half the cursor will move and it again wants to loop. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to stop this?

Also, I want to copy a piece of my track and paste it over a glitch in my recording, so that a particular word (“and”) doesn’t sound slurred. How do I do this? I’m a bit confused.

Thanks!
